About Us

In the 1980s there was close collaboration between NACE and the Institute of Corrosion. This led to the formation of the Corrosion Control and Engineering Joint Venture and then the Corrosion Engineering Association. Among other activities this led to the publication of Concrete Society Technical Report 36 on cathodic protection of reinforced concrete, published in 1989. There was also an International NACE Conference “Life Prediction of Corrodible Structures” held in Cambridge in September 1991.

A separate NACE UK Section was set up in 1991 to bring the various services of NACE to the UK community. A successful conference in Bath in 1998 cemented the role of the UK Section. In the early 2000’s a regular series of free open Evening Technical meetings were initiated in London often jointly with other bodies such as the IMAREST; the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology. Other seminars were organised in other regions including Manchester and Birmingham. In addition, there was an emphasis to bring the certification and professional development programmes of NACE to the UK and the Section focused on running the Basic Corrosion Course (since 1993) as well as the Corrosion Control in the Refining Industry courses. The Design for Corrosion Control course was first run in the UK in the mid-90s. Cathodic protection courses CP 3 and CP 4 are now both held in UK.

The CIP courses are provided in the UK through Tony Cunningham. . The section is listening to its members who are requesting that other courses be delivered to the UK.

The section was renamed NACE International - Great Britain United Kingdom Section in 2008. Joint seminars with the Institute of Corrosion were initiated and sponsored by the Section in both London and Aberdeen. This website is our forum for bringing you news of our activities and other courses that are provided on behalf of NACE International and by other organizations.
